New Provincial Funding to Boost Agritourism Opportunities for Local Farmers

Exciting news for Norfolk’s farmers and agriculture businesses!

Agritourism Ontario, formerly Farm Fresh Ontario, has received nearly $345,000 in provincial funding over three years to help grow agritourism opportunities across the province. Agritourism Ontario is the only association in Ontario solely dedicated to supporting farmers in agritourism and advocating for the farm sector.

The funds will support a comprehensive marketing strategy and a farm visit awareness campaign, as well as provide professional development workshops, webinars, and events for AO members. These initiatives aim to enhance the visibility and appeal of agritourism destinations, making it easier for families and tourists to discover and visit local farms.

One of the key projects funded by this grant is the development of an innovative app designed to connect more families to local farms. This app will feature interactive maps, event listings, and detailed profiles of participating farms, making it a valuable tool for planning farm visits. Additionally, marketing campaigns will highlight the unique experiences offered by Ontario farms, from pick-your-own produce to farm-to-table dining events.

Norfolk County, known for its rich agricultural heritage, is home to several vibrant farm markets that will benefit from these initiatives. The Simcoe Farmers’ Market, located at 172 South Drive, Simcoe, is a community hub where locals and visitors can purchase fresh, locally-grown produce and artisanal goods1

Local farm markets in Norfolk County not only provide fresh food but also serve as social gathering spots, fostering a sense of community. Norfolk boasts several AO members who can be discovered on AO’s Ontario Farm Map.

“This funding is a game-changer for our members,” said Darlene Downey, Chair of Agritourism Ontario. “It will enable us to support farm operators more effectively and attract more visitors to our beautiful rural areas.”

Farm businesses interested in learning how these initiatives can support their operations are encouraged to join Agritourism Ontario. Membership provides access to valuable resources, networking opportunities, and the latest industry insights.
