Meet Scout: From Sketch to Beloved Norfolk Mascot

Running a small business comes with countless challenges, from navigating complex regulations to finding reliable professional services. For many entrepreneurs and business owners in Norfolk and surrounding areas, knowing where to turn for expert help has often meant time-consuming research or costly trial and error. That challenge just got significantly easier.

The Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie has launched an innovative **Business Resource Toolkit**, a comprehensive online directory designed to connect local businesses with the professional services and expertise they need to thrive. This digital resource represents a game-changing approach to business support, bringing together hundreds of service providers under one easily searchable platform.

A One-Stop Solution for Business Needs

The Business Resource Toolkit functions as a centralized hub featuring approximately 600 businesses and organizations across the Grand Erie and Elgin-Middlesex-Oxford regions. Rather than spending hours searching for reliable service providers, business owners can now quickly locate experts in their specific area of need with just a few clicks.

The directory covers an impressive range of professional services essential to modern business operations. Whether you’re seeking accounting expertise, legal counsel, insurance guidance, or IT support, the toolkit has you covered. Cybersecurity specialists, marketing professionals, workplace health and safety consultants, and human resources experts are all represented in the comprehensive database.

Recognizing the diverse business landscape in our region, the toolkit also includes specialized resources for Indigenous businesses and agriculture-related enterprises. Additionally, it features services for hiring internationally trained workers, addressing the growing need for diverse talent acquisition in today’s competitive market.

Designed with Small Business in Mind

“The idea is to make it easier for businesses, especially smaller businesses and those in more rural areas, to find services to tap into when they need support with HR or other issues,” explained Danette Dalton, executive director of the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie.

This focus on smaller enterprises addresses a critical gap in the business ecosystem. Many small companies operate without full-time specialists in areas like human resources or information technology. When regulatory changes occur or complex situations arise, these businesses often struggle to find appropriate expertise quickly and affordably.

The toolkit’s user-friendly search functionality allows businesses to filter results by specific service types or geographic location, ensuring they can find relevant, nearby resources. Each listing includes complete contact information and website details, streamlining the process of connecting with potential service providers.

Regional Collaboration Drives Success

The Business Resource Toolkit represents a collaborative effort between multiple regional organizations committed to supporting local economic growth. The project partners include the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, the Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board, and South Central Ontario Region Economic Development (SCOR EDC).

This partnership approach ensures comprehensive coverage across the region while avoiding duplication of efforts. The toolkit will be accessible through the websites of both workforce planning boards, maximizing visibility and convenience for users throughout the service area.

The Government of Ontario provided partial funding for the project, demonstrating provincial recognition of the importance of supporting small business growth and development in southwestern Ontario communities.

Accessing the Resource

For Norfolk businesses ready to explore new opportunities for growth and operational efficiency, the Business Resource Toolkit offers an invaluable starting point. Whether you’re a startup seeking initial guidance, an established company looking to expand capabilities, or a rural business needing specialized expertise, this resource can help you find the right professional support.

The toolkit is now live and available for immediate use. By connecting local businesses with qualified service providers, this initiative strengthens our entire regional business ecosystem, fostering collaboration, growth, and shared success.
